2024 Jeweled Macchia Studio Edition

The exuberant and unexpected color combinations of Dale Chihuly’s Macchia series achieve the artist’s vision of a visceral experience in color and light.  With opaque and translucent hues layered one over another, the works in this series appear to glow with an internal luminosity.

The 2024 Jeweled Macchia Studio Edition begins as a clear, glass bubble.  As this bubble is heated and shaped into its final form, layer upon layer of colored glass chips are applied, each eclipsing another to create depth and contrast—yellow over blue becoming green, blue over red becoming purple, red over yellow becoming orange. A vibrant rose-colored interior provides the foundation for this dialogue, while a golden yellow lip wrap further defines the form.
